On Thursday, June 6th, 2024, The Florence Mensah Foundation made a significant impact on the girls in Assin Ochiso D/C Junior High School in Ochiso, Central Region, Ghana, as part of its transformative ‘1000 Girls Project.’
The head teacher, Mr. Jacob Sereboah, warmly welcomed the foundation’s representatives and Reflo Company Ltd, the producers of Reflo’s sanitary pads, to the event, introducing them to the gathered community members.
Madam Florence Mensah, the esteemed founder of the foundation, delivered an inspiring address. She expressed her profound joy in providing sanitary pads to young girls, highlighting the critical role of this initiative in protecting girls from exploitation and empowering them to pursue their dreams without the hindrance of menstruation-related challenges, which often deter school attendance.
She announced the provision of a six-month supply of sanitary pads to 213 girls, with plans to return to complete a full year’s supply.
The Reflo’s Ladies conducted an informative health talk on menstrual hygiene, providing valuable knowledge on pad usage and disposal techniques, along with practical demonstrations on proper hand washing and garment care to maintain cleanliness and prevent odours.
The students performed a moving theatrical piece depicting the struggles families face in buying sanitary products and traditionally relying on “Amoasin” or “Ntoma” (cloth).
The event concluded with the distribution of six months’ worth of sanitary pads to all menstruating girls present, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of young girls in the community. The head teacher, on behalf of the entire school and community, extended sincere appreciation to The Florence Mensah Foundation for their transformative impact. Previously, The Florence Mensah Foundation had donated over 20 boxes of Reflo’s sanitary pads and deemed it fit to visit the school again. The foundation’s focus on providing long-term solutions sets it apart from other NGOs, guaranteeing a more enduring impact on the girls and women they assist. Both the Florence Mensah Foundation and Reflo Company Ltd pledged their continued support for this vital cause.
